Can’t update your maps ~ 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Uconnect 8.4″ 4C Nav Radio Software Updates v28.3 & v40.1

For those owners of North American 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee (GC) that find themselves unable to update their 2017-era Here maps, because the Uconnect site states that no updates are available with the v22.5 firmware loaded into your Gen4 Panasonic radio that year. Firmware updates are supposed to be provided Over-The-Air (OTA), but because of a bug in v22.5, that has never happened once in the five years I’ve owned my Jeep.

After a lot of searching, I stumbled onto a very helpful solution (with a link to the both U.S. “UAV” and Canadian “UCV” versions of the firmware, along with a pdf of the TSB with install instructions) on Pacificaforums.com of all places (none of the Jeep forums were very helpful for model year 2019). Having the dealer do this time consuming procedure could run you at least $200 – $300, and if you request that they then update the maps, figure on another $250.

Per Stellantis TSB: 08-076-23, any firmware lower than v28.3 involves a two-step upgrade, whereby you must first do an intermediary update to v28.3 to avoid bricking the head unit, by unzipping that file to an empty FAT32 USB drive and proceeding. Speaking from experience, if your newly created update USB doesn’t immediately trigger a message “An update is available…” when plugged into your vehicle, try a different, better quality flash drive. When finished, format the USB drive, unzip the v40.1 file to it, and repeat.

I can only vouch for the U.S. version, which went pretty smoothly (after moving to a 32GB Lexar flash drive). According to the TSB, the firmware update(s) fix quite a few bugs, and also apply to 2020, 2021 and 2022 (WK) Jeep GCs (it’s likely you’ll be able to bypass the v28.3 upgrade in those newer vehicles). Here’s the list of other applicable vehicles (if equipped with a Uconnect 4C Nav With 8.4” Display radio [Sales Codes UAV or UCV]), but note that the referenced v28.3 file is labeled as being for the 2019 Jeep GC only.

2019 – 2021 (DJ) RAM 2500 Pickup
